Ev with Hires Stereo

چکیده

We present the results of a search for small-scale anisotropy in the distribution of arrival directions of cosmic rays above 10 19 eV measured in stereo by the High Resolution Fly's Eye (HiRes) experiment. Performing an autocorrelation scan in energy and angular separation, we find that the strongest correlation signal in the HiRes stereo data set recorded between December 1999 and January 2004 is consistent with the null hypothesis of isotropically distributed arrival directions. These results are compared to previous claims of significant small-scale clustering in the AGASA data set.

Results from the HiRes Experiment

The High Resolution Fly’s Eye (HiRes) Experiment has been in operation in monocular mode since 1997 and in stereo mode since late 1999. The published HiRes monocular spectrum is consistent with the GZK Suppression at 10 eV and observes an ankle structure at 10 eV. The preliminary stereo spectrum is consistent with the monocular spectrum. Various anisotropy studies with both monocular and stereo...

Search for Point Sources of Ultra – High - Energy Cosmic Rays Above 10 19 eV Using a Maximum Likelihood Ratio Test

We present the results of a search for cosmic ray point sources at energies above 1.0 × 10 19 eV in the HiRes stereo data set. The analysis is based on a maximum likelihood ratio test using the probability density function for each event rather than requiring an a priori choice of a fixed angular bin size. The search is extended to the combined data set of HiRes data above 1.0 × 10 19 eV and AG...

Sky Maps of High Resolution Fly’s Eye Stereo Data Above 10 eV

Presented are a number of techniques to search for anisotropies in High Resolution Fly’s Eye stereo data collected to date. The method employed to search for point sources is that of shower density sky maps. An integrated version is used to search for larger anisotropies. Finally, large-scale anisotropies are investigated using a harmonic analysis designed to account for HiRes uneven exposure t...

Angular Correlation Estimates for Ultrahigh Energy Cosmic Rays

Identifying the sources of ultrahigh energy cosmic rays remains one of the major challenges in astrophysics. If these cosmic rays are not too severely deflected by magnetic fields while in transit, then their arrival directions will provide crucial information about their origins. The High Resolution Fly’s Eye (HiRes) experiment, consisting of two air fluorescence detector sites, has been makin...

Clustering of ultra-high energy cosmic ray arrival directions on medium scales

The two-point autocorrelation function of ultra-high energy cosmic ray (UHECR) arrival directions has a broad maximum around 25 degrees, combining the data with energies above 4 × 10 eV (in the HiRes energy scale) of the HiRes stereo, AGASA, Yakutsk and SUGAR experiments. This signal is not or only marginally present analyzing events of a single experiment, but becomes significant when data fro...
